September is close now, and this week is about getting ready for it. Not just academically — getting used to the shape of a school day again after a summer of camp.

⏰ A Real Timetable on the Board Preparations

The board this morning was not a lesson plan — it was a school timetable. Bells, in effect:

Simple, but it matters. After weeks of camp rhythm, sitting down when the clock says so — and getting up only when it says so — is a skill that needs a few days to come back. Better to practise it here than to rediscover it on the first morning of term.

➗ Three Levels, One Table Same time, different sheet

And here is the part worth looking at closely. Sitting side by side at the same table, working at the same time, these three worksheets were in front of three different children:

Order of OperationsBIMDAS · brackets, indices, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction — including questions with exponents

Colour the Answer!2 + 3, 6 + 1, 3 + 3 — colour the box holding the right answer

From 108 − 12 × 9 down to 2 + 3, at one table, in the same half hour. Nobody is held back waiting for the group, and nobody is quietly lost while the group moves on. That is what "at their own level" actually looks like in practice.

Why maths puzzles, not just drills
A maze or a colouring grid gives instant feedback: get the product wrong and the path simply does not continue. The child finds their own mistake before anyone has to point it out — which is a far better way to learn than being corrected.

The rest of the morning went to the research posters. Every team was building at once — and you can tell each one apart from across the room by colour alone.

⚽ Soccer + Math The poster of the day

This one deserves its own section. Given a free choice, one student picked soccer — and then turned it into a geometry lesson.

Everything on that board is worked out by hand:

20 white hexagons6 sides each

white : black = 5 : 3because 20 : 12 simplifies

Then the two questions he wants to ask the room. “How many sides are on a soccer ball?” — 20 + 12 = 32. And the good one: “How many seams are on a soccer ball?” — every seam is shared by two shapes, so (12 × 5) + (20 × 6) = 180, divided by 2 = 90.

Underneath, in the corner, the challenge for the audience: “Can you draw a soccer ball?” 😄

This is the whole idea of the project
The child chooses something they already love. We attach real academic content to it. Soccer becomes hexagons, pentagons, ratio and a two-step calculation — and nobody had to be persuaded to do the maths.

The piano pair are not only making a poster — they are practising the piece they intend to play on presentation day. That is what "demonstrations" on the brief was asking for.

🍚 Lunch, Together Served, then sat down

Then 12:00, exactly as the board said. Fried rice with freshly cut kimchi — plated up at the counter, then everybody at the table at the same time. Which, again, is the school routine we are rehearsing.

Still ahead this week: the last boards get finished, and then the presentations — each student standing up with the topic they chose themselves.

Two weeks from now, someone will ring an actual bell at 10:30. Today they got a little practice at hearing it. ⏰
