Wednesday was filled with ideas taking shape—first on large presentation boards, then through equations spoken aloud, and finally in stories invented one question at a time. The children spent a focused morning building cultural, lyrical, and personal-interest presentations while strengthening the confidence to share what they know.

Students chose subjects that genuinely interested them. Some explored culture, food, music, and lyrics; others worked from movies, characters, or topics they already knew well. Choosing their own direction gave each child a reason to research carefully, organize information, and think about how an audience would follow the final presentation.
🎲 Mental Math, Spoken Out Loud Think · calculate · communicate
The first oral challenge combined mathematics with turn-taking conversation. Students rolled a die, then produced accurate equations that matched the randomly chosen sum or quotient. They had to calculate mentally, listen to earlier answers, wait for their turn, and state a complete equation clearly enough for everyone to follow.
Because each student worked at an appropriate level, the activity naturally expanded mathematical vocabulary and concept understanding across different grades. Just as importantly, it made speaking part of the problem-solving process rather than something that happened only after the answer was found.
🐻 Bear or Skunk? A story built from WH-questions
The second speaking challenge began with one playful choice and grew into a complete narrative on the spot.

Then came Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.
After choosing an unusual pet, each student answered follow-up questions from the full set of WH-questions. Every answer had to connect logically with what had already been said. The children created thoughtful, imaginative stories with characters, settings, reasons, events, and consequences—without a script.

These two activities showed that confidence grows through practice that feels purposeful. Students were not simply reciting a prepared sentence: they were listening, adapting, explaining, and building meaning together.
🍕 A Well-Deserved Pizza Break Refuel after a busy morning
After so much planning, calculating, and speaking, pizza was a very welcome break. The children gathered around the boxes, chose their slices, and enjoyed an easy moment with friends before returning to their projects.
🍨 Build-Your-Own Sundaes Colorful, creative, and sweet
The treats continued with ice-cream sundaes. Everyone assembled a personal combination of ice cream, fruit, cereal, marshmallows, gummies, and other colorful toppings. Like the morning posters, no two finished bowls looked exactly alike.
Today’s Growth
The poster work developed research, organization, and visual communication. Mental math strengthened accuracy and mathematical language. The pet narrative challenged students to listen, improvise, and connect ideas logically. Together, these experiences helped build both social confidence and linguistic effectiveness.
